Since 1999, we have reduced noise pollution for residents living near rail lines through the voluntary noise remediation program for existing Federal rail lines. We are reducing noise pollution on particularly affected lines by using fixed noise remediation measures no. 25, such as noise barriers and windows and noise-proof ventilators in residential buildings.
Progress on implementing these measures on affected lines in 2020 was above our forecast from the 2019 Integrated Report.
Federal budget call for funding
In the year under review, about € 146 million in funds from the Federal budget (Bundeshaushalt; BHH) was used for active and passive noise remediation measures as part of the noise remediation program. In addition, further noise remediation projects, such as I-LENA, were financed using the funds of the support program.
