Integrated rail system
The main components of our integrated rail system are our passenger transport activities in Germany, our rail freight transport activities, the operating service units and the rail infrastructure companies (RIC).
Long-Distance transport
Fast and comfortable long-distance transport connections in Germany and in the major metropolises of the neighboring countries by rail in day-to-day transport are the core business of DB Long-Distance. The main focus of the activities is on product and service quality to ensure efficient and reliable operation in the interests of the customers. We drive over 1,400 trains per day for our customers.
Regional transport
DB Regio Rail operates a nationwide regional transport network in regional rail passenger transport. The transport is financed by concession fees and farebox revenues. DB Regional provides an offer adapted to regional and local transport needs on behalf of the contracting organizations. Nationwide 27 contracting organizations award the regional rail passenger transport networks in the competition. With a market share of more than 60%, DB Regional forms the backbone of the regional rail passenger transport market in Germany.
Bus transport
In Germany DB Regio Bus bundles 33 regional bus companies throughout Germany, divided into 7 regions. DB Regio Bus is the market leader in the German regional bus market. We have over 400 counties and county-level cities as customers. The DB Regio Bus is optimally positioned for the needs of our clients. The IC Bus supplements rail services on specific domestic and international routes.
Additional mobility services
Based on a variety of mobility products, DB Connect GmbH develops an individual mobility concept for cutomers on the road and rail. In addition to fleet solutions, the range of services also includes tailor-made intermodal offers. Here, DB Connect combines Flinkster car sharing, call a bike, chauffeur service and local and long-distance trains in an intelligent mobility concept.
With ioki we are dedicated to the development of modern, flexible and digital mobility solutions. ioki is a full service provider of digital forms of mobility on the road, making transport more sustainable and efficient. ioki is developing an open environment for on-demand mobility that is tightly integrated into local public transport and enables seamless mobility. Since 2015, we have been involved in CleverShuttle, a transportation service that provides affordable and environmentally friendly door-to-door mobility within urban centers. CleverShuttle works according to the ride-pooling principle: travelers with similar route requests are bundled into carpools and transported together.
Rail freight transport
DB Cargo covers our Europe-wide rail freight operations in the three regions East, Central and West. With about 4,200 customer sidings in Europe, DB Cargo provides its customers with access to one of the biggest rail networks in the world and is thus the number one in European rail freight transport. The international network stretches along the huge European freight transport corridor. This means that rail transport is offered across Europe in the product areas of block trains, single wagon and combined transport. Individual industry solutions complete the range of services offered. Mainly self-owned traction units and freight cars are used to provide services. The customer structure is characterized by major customers.
Rail network
DB Netze Track is the largest and most efficient rail infrastructure operator in Europe, responsible for the about 33,000 kilometer long rail network and all operation-critical facilities. DB Netze Track is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of rail transport in Germany 365 days a year, thus securing more than 1 billion train path kilometers per year.
DB Netz AG ensures non-discriminatory network access for all aithorized rail infrastructure companies (RIC), public transport authorities, and carriers and shippers. Implementation will be carried out in close cooperation with the Federal Network Agency.
Stations
The stations are the gateway to the train and at the same time the calling card of cities and regions. With their appearance and performance, they contribute significantly to customer satisfaction and determine the attractiveness of rail transport. DB Netze Stations operates about 5,400 stations, each of which has 100 rail infrastructure companies (RICs) with more than 20 million passengers per day.
Energy supply
In Germany, DB Netze Energy offers all industry-standard energy products in the areas of traction energy and stationary energy. Not only rail power and diesel for rail transport, but also electricity, gas and heat at stations of the DB Group are provided by DB Netze Energy.
Bus transport
In the bus transport DB Group is represented throughout Europe. DB Arriva operates more than 17,000 buses in 14 countries in Europe (Denmark, United Kingdom, Italy, Croatia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic and Hungary). The largest market for DB Arriva is the Freat Britain.
Rail transport
Outside Germany, DB Arriva operates in rail transport in eight European countries (Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and the Czech Republic). In addition, DB Arriva participates in tenders for rail transport throughout Europe.
Additional mobility services
DB Arriva completes the passenger service with car and bike sharing systems. In the car sharing segment, DB Arriva operates the Drive-Now fleet in Copenhagen. Around the clock the customer has access to more than 500 vehicles, of which 350 are electrically powered, in the city. The fleet includes BMW i3, BMW 1 Series and three- and five-door Mini Cooper. DB Arriva provides more than 500 bicycles in the Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia to its customers in the field of bike sharing.
Land transport
With about 22,000 employees at about 720 locations, DB Schenker is number one in European land transport. DB Schenker offers its customers time and cost-optimized services for general cargo, part and full load transport. The range includes rail-based logistics chains for the European and transcontinental market. They combine the advantages railway and truck modes of transport. DB Schenker has a dense European transport network, from Spain and Portugal to the Urals, from Finland to Sicily, Romania and Turkey.
Ocean freight
DB Schenker is number 4 in worldwide ocean freight. Our world-leading global ocean freight network covers more than 130 countries around the world with about 800 DB Schenker locations. DB Schenker brings more than 5,500 containers to the ports of the world every day. This makes us a top freight company for your ocean freight shipments.
Air freight
DB Schenker is number 3 in worldwide airfreight. With a network of around 700 locations in more than 130 countries and an air freight volume of more than 1.3 million tons in 2018, we have a worldwide presence for our customers. By working together with a few selected partners, we ensure the highest quality for our customers.
Contract logistics
In contract logistics, DB Schenker, with about 22,000 employees on all continents, offers tailored logistics solutions for industry and commerce at about 750 locations. In 2017, we have a total warehouse area of 8.0 million m2 worldwide. DB Schenker ranks 5th in contract logistics worldwide.
