Environmental measures

• At the end of May 2025, the first construction phase of the planned geothermal system at the new, more climate-friendly ICE depot Dortmund-Port was completed. The plant will heat and air-condition the depot using renewable energies as soon as it is complete.
• The Climate Cup for business customers was launched in February 2025. Companies collect points for the kilometers they travel on DB Long-Distance services within Germany and can win first-class Business BahnCards for all their employees. A total of 1,175 companies took part in the campaign, traveling about 990 million kilometers in total.
• Donation projects in Destination Nature areas for the protection of the tree frog, the northern birch mouse and the gray seal were added to the BahnBonus program in 2025. For over 20 years, BUND, NABU, VCD and DB Group have been working together to shift tourist traffic in national parks, nature parks and biosphere reserves from cars to buses and trains as part of the Destination Nature cooperation.
