Biodiversity and Ecosystems (ESRS E4)

Targets (E4-4)

In 2025, there were no measurable, time-bound and outcome-oriented targets within the meaning of the ESRS in relation to biodiversity and ecosystems. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and implementing measures to protect biodiversity and ecosystems on an ongoing basis.

Our level of ambition in protecting biodiversity and ecosystems corresponds to the legal requirements of no net loss. The specific assessment of our interventions and compensation measures is based on the biotope valuation method. As many actions, such as new plantings, require a long development period, the full, measurable impact often only occurs much later. Through targeted area management, we ensure that the desired target values are achieved within the set deadlines and are maintained in the long term through continuous maintenance. Progress is monitored on a project-by-project basis over the legally prescribed monitoring and maintenance periods, which generally cover at least 25 to 30 years. The effectiveness of our mitigation and compensation measures is checked during the construction phase by the environmental construction supervisors and after project completion by DB’s land management department. In addition, an annual report is submitted to the EBA, which checks compliance with the legal requirements.
