Development of business units

Key events

  • DB Vehicle Maintenance: In 2025, DB Vehicle Maintenance launched the “Fit for the Future” program to set the pace for its strategic realignment. The program is focused on increasing profitability. The aim is to achieve a sustainably positive operating profit starting in 2027 through productivity improvements and optimized cost structures.
  • DB E.C.O. Group: Progress continues to be made in respect of implementing building information modeling (BIM). By the end of 2024, expanded BIM standards had been introduced for all crafts within the environmental and geoservices and planning production units, and these were optimized in the first half of 2025 based on user feedback. A further BIM pilot project was launched in October 2025, demonstrating the BIM standard across all crafts in a real-world project example. Essential BIM application cases can be processed in construction supervision. The service portfolios of the design centers in Romania and India belonging to DB Engineering & Consulting (DB E & C) were expanded to include BIM-specific services. BIM-specific learning paths have been established and are being expanded gradually.
  • DB Rail Construction: As mobility increasingly shifts to rail and capacity requirements grow accordingly, so, too, do the demands in terms of track maintenance. To meet these challenges, DB Rail Construction has ordered 18 high-performance tamping machines. The use of a large number of identical machines increases the efficiency of maintenance and servicing while reducing training costs. This allows for flexible staff rotations – a key advantage given ever-shorter closure periods and the shortage of skilled labor.
  • DB JobService: In 2025, the development of DB JobService was significantly influenced by staff reductions as part of the S3 restructuring program as well as by further transformation measures, particularly at DB Cargo. As the business volume has increased significantly over the past two years, the funds required for restructuring have been adjusted. The “Job Restart” program, launched in collaboration with the recruitment organization, is designed to provide additional impetus to specifically support employees during periods of career transition by helping them develop new professional opportunities both within and outside DB Group.
