Availability and operations
Observed maintenance closures
With the use of maintenance containers as part of “Synchronized construction,” we are pursuing the target of increasing the predictability and efficiency of closures for maintenance measures and significantly reducing the proportion of closures imposed at short notice. This metric is also referred to as maintenance in line with the cycle times. By 2030, we are aiming to keep 80 % of the planned closures on schedule and within the planned time window. This should allow construction activities to be carried out without last-minute changes to the schedule and within the standardized time window. The target value was already exceeded in 2025. The “Synchronized construction” management system makes a significant contribution to stabilizing construction processes and improving planning quality.
Replacement of old interlockings
This metric shows how many old interlockings were replaced within a year as part of renewal projects. The count takes place once the new interlocking goes into operation.
High-performance network
As part of the transformation to a high-performance network, the focus is on high implementation performance for corridor modernizations. The aim is to renew about 2,500 km of track by 2036.
In total, the corridor modernization encompasses 41 corridors that are individually identified in Section 11c BSWAG. The original plan was to complete all corridors by 2030. In close consultation with the sector and the Federal Government, the sequence of corridor modernizations and the 2025 time plan were adjusted and extended to 2036, meaning that a maximum of four corridor modernizations per year are now planned.
The BMV approved the schedule revised by DB InfraGO together with the TOCs, associations and the Federal states in September 2025. DB InfraGO is thus implementing the adjustment of the modernization periods to reflect the term of the Special Fund for Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality as required under the coalition agreement. Feedback from the sector, including on the stability of detour transports, and the resources of the rail and construction industries were also taken into account.
Generally modernized kilometers
This metric shows the total number of kilometers of track that were refurbished and put into operation under the corridor modernization approach.
Stations
Stations of the future
With the stations of the future concept, we are pursuing the target of modernizing about 910 stations by 2030 in accordance with uniform equipment standards, thereby further improving the quality of stay and accessibility for passengers. The metric shows the number of stations equipped and operated in a future-proof manner according to defined standards.
