Cooperation with the train station welfare centers

With about 100 locations, the Bahnhofsmission (train station welfare center) is an important partner in the station social area. In this context, DB InfraGO provides the charitable organization with DB premises free of charge and assumes responsibility for the maintenance of the rooms and the heating, toilet and electrical systems, etc. In April 2024, DB InfraGO launched the action group “Strong Bahnhofsmission” to provide increased and coordinated support for the Bahnhofsmission. Since November 2024, for example, donations and volunteering have been advertised on billboards in train stations. In Hanover, the role of station walkers assigned to the Bahnhofsmission is being piloted with a view to preventing and resolving conflicts of use in a low-threshold and de-escalating manner. In June 2025, Caritas and Stiftung Mercator also launched the “station social area” funding project, which will develop measures in and around the station at 13 locations until 2028.
